694 Multi-Storey Buildings in Jakarta Still Far from Fire Protection Requirements

The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) has recorded that 694 high-rise buildings in Jakarta do not meet fire protection requirements.

The rest 1,915 have met the requirements

Jakarta Gulkarmat Agency Head, Satriadi Gunawan said routine fire protection inspections were conducted in thousands of high-rise buildings, either above or below eight floors in Jakarta.

"From the examination of 2,609 buildings, 694 are declared not to meet fire protection requirements, while the rest 1,915 have met the requirements," he expressed, during the Jakarta Update Event Edition 2 at Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (1/22).

Regarding the fire incident at Glodok Plaza a while ago, the building did not meet fire protection requirements based on the data from 2023.

He explained the inspections conducted included active and passive fire protection such as sprinklers and spray protectors, evacuation tools, and building fire safety management (MKKG), which outlines who does what in the event of a fire.

Aside that, he issued fire safety certificates to building managers who meet the requirements during the annual fire protection inspections.

"And buildings are still far from the requirements must make improvements. We do not execute but rather guidance, thus the owners or managers improve fire safety protection," he asserted.
